What is Kinesio Tape?

Kinesio taping is a therapeutic method that physical therapists, chiropractors and other rehabilitative specialists use to help treat patients who are experiencing pain, decreased joint motion, muscle stiffness and so much more. Just to give an idea how kinesio tape works, a stretch is applied to the tape when placing it on the skin with the muscle wanting stretched in the stretched position, therefore stretching the desired muscle or tissue you want stretched. For example, if you want to stretch the bicep muscle, you would stretch out your arm like you’re working out your triceps to get a more stretching effect on the biceps when applying the tape.

What Are the Benefits of Kinesio Tape?

Do you notice that we are saying the word “stretch” a lot? That is because that is the whole concept of the tape. It helps to stretch tight muscles or tissues and helps bring into a relaxed state. Other than relaxing tissue, kinesio tape also helps change muscle tone, move lymphatic fluids, correct movement patterns and improve posture. With the benefits tape provides, it helps with many conditions such as plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, sprains, strains, tension headaches, rotator cuff issues, knee issues and so much more. Sometimes, something very simple can be the solution to your problems. At our office, we do offer kinesio tape treatments if we find it necessary. We will use it more for patients who have conditions such as carpal tunnel or plantar fasciitis to help relax tissue.
